Ms. Ave Mitta has been at the Jefferson College of Health Sciences in Roanoke, Virginia since 1993. Prior to moving to academia, Ms. Mitta specialized in adult orthopedic and neuro rehabilitation. During her tenure at Jefferson College, she has served various roles. She is currently the program director, however in the past she served as the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program and Program Director for the BS Occupational Therapy Program. She was instrumental in the development of the OTA Program assisting to achieve initial accreditation and most recently a 10 year re-accreditation. She currently teaches OTA classes in human movement, pathology, adult physical dysfunction, and assistive technology. She is the chair of the Academic Policy Committee, and is a member of the Faculty Senate and Undergraduate Council. She is active in the community serving on the Disability Advocacy and Health Ministry Committees at her church, and Creative Therapy Care. She serves on two community boards, the Roanoke Area Brain Injury Connection and the National Advisory Board for Occupational Therapy Programs at Remington College. Research interests include neuro rehabilitation and client outcomes.
