David W. Musick, Ph.D.


As assistant dean for faculty development at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine , Dr. David Musick is responsible for ongoing faculty development activities within Carilion Clinic and at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. In addition, he serves as director of the Department of Continuing Professional Development at Carilion Clinic. In this role, he oversees the administration of the Center for Simulation Research and Patient Safety; the Office of Professional Staff Affairs, and the Office of Continuing Medical Education. He is also a professor in the Department of Internal Medicine.=

Dr. Musick earned his bachelor’s degree from Milligan College, his master’s degree in sociology from East Tennessee University, and his Ph.D. in educational evaluation and policy studies from the University of Kentucky. He held part-time teaching appointments at three universities prior to specializing in medical education beginning in 1992.
