Vena Duncan, M.S.W.

Adjunct Faculty

Vena Duncan, L.C.S.W., M.S. has been an adjunct faculty member at JCHS since 1995. She thoroughly enjoys facilitating Soc 213 as both a distance learning and classroom experience. Her goal is for her students to have a greater appreciation for the many social issues that impact the lives of clients as well as our own lives. Vena is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's Degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her career path has taken many twists and turns including working with the elderly, hospice clients, foster children, home health patients and outpatient clients in both direct care and administrative settings. Vena hopes that the examples and stories from her many careers help put the textbook theories into real life settings. She lives in Roanoke County with Bentley, her husband of 25 years, their basset hound Chewy and their diva cat, Felix. Vena is also dealing with the "empty nest" syndrome as her son is in college. Vena says, "Teaching Soc is my main hobby although I can also be found at every home UVA football game and I am also a huge NASCAR fan."
