Patrice M. Weiss, M.D.
Executive Vice President, Chief Medical Officer, Carilion Clinic
Professor, Department of OB/GYN, Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine

Patrice M. Weiss, MD, is Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Carilion Clinic and Professor of OB/GYN at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. She joined Carilion in August 2007, bringing over a decade of clinical, administrative and medical education experience. Dr. Weiss serves on the Carilion Clinic Board of Directors, Carilion Medical Center Board of Directors as well as the Carilion Clinic Board of Governors. She previously served as medical director of the Carilion Clinic Breast Care Center. Dr. Weiss was the vice chair of Education, Research and Academic Compliance as well as the residency program director and clerkship director at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, PA. She was the first medical director of Risk Management for Lehigh Valley Physicians Group.

Dr. Weiss is a past chair of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Committee on Patient Safety and Quality Improvement and was an ex-officio member of the Committee on Professional Liability and the Voluntary Review of Quality of Care Steering Committee. She serves on the Board of the Blue Ridge indemnity Captive and chairs the Risk Management Reduction Committee and the Second Victim Task Force at Carilion Clinic.

Dr. Weiss is an immediate past member of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education OB/GYN Residency Review Committee and the Council of Residency Education in OB/GYN. She is a founding board member of the Society of Academic Specialists in General Ob/Gyn and has served on the board of directors for the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics. She is also the current Program Chair for the Council of Residency Education of OB/GYN (CREOG). In addition, she is a member of the CREOG Education Committee, Executive Committee and the Council.

Dr. Weiss currently serves on the Department of Health and Human Services Council on Graduate Medical Education.

In January, 2016, Dr. Weiss will begin working on the American Hospital Association Committee on Clinical Leadership. She is currently nominated by the American Hospital Association’s Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Board of Trustees.

Dr. Weiss received her medical degree from Hahnemann University (Drexel) School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honorary medical society. She completed her residency at Lehigh Valley Hospital as well as a Fellowship in Academic Leadership with the Council of University Chairs of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and an oral board examiner and a test-writer for Maintenance of Certification with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Weiss has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and authored, co-authored, and edited text­books and textbook chapters. She lectures nationally on her passions of medical education, risk management, patient safety, medical error, communication and emotional intelligence. Dr. Weiss was the keynote Presidential speaker at the Japanese Society of OB/GYN in Tokyo in April 2014.

Dr. Weiss lives in Roanoke with her husband, Frank G. Finch, M.D., and their two children, Frank and Rachel.
