JCHS Alumni Association Hosts Dr. A. Tyler Putnam, II as Part of Distinguished Speaker Series
The Jefferson College of Health Sciences (JCHS) Alumni Association will continue its Distinguished Speaker Series with A. Tyler Putnam, M.D., FACS, the Director of Surgical Care and Critical Care Surgery Section Chief at Carilion Clinic.

This event is FREE and open to the public.
The presentation will define compassion fatigue and focus on the symptoms that may accompany it, including deep physical, emotional and spiritual exhaustion accompanied by deep emotional pain. Dr. Putnam will discuss the wide array of professionals and people who may suffer from compassion fatigue, including soldiers, law enforcement officers, families of chronically ill or institutionalized individuals, social workers or counselors, the clergy, teachers and healthcare providers. Dr. Putnam is a leader in international surgical and critical care education and has developed and implemented training programs that have been brought to over 50 countries through the support of the U.S. State and Defense Departments. He was recognized as the Air Force Physician of the Year in 2001 for his contributions to medical education, training and clinical readiness. He currently maintains dual board certification by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care/Trauma.
Dr. Putnam has been with Carilion Clinic since July 2007 and he serves on the academic faculty teaching residents and medical students in general surgery, trauma and critical care. He is also actively involved in multiple research projects at Carilion that aim to translate innovative medical concepts into improved patient care and effective training for future Carilion surgical residents and Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine students.
