Top 10 Safety Tips

Remember These Safety Tips:

  • Do not leave your drink or beverage unattended.
If you do leave your drink unattended, throw it away.
  • Don’t accept rides or walk home with strangers.
Have a sober person with you or in your group who will help to make sure you get home safely. Carry extra money on you in case you need to use a taxi.
  • Do not release any identifying information about yourself online.
This includes, your name, phone number, where you work or go to school, any athletic teams you may play on or anything else that could allow someone to discover your identity.
  • Do not send anyone or post online nude or indiscreet pictures of yourself.
Once pictures or material of this nature is given to someone else, you can no longer control what happens to the pictures and they belong to the other individual.
  • Always tell someone where you will be and who you will be with.
Let a friend, roommate or family member know where you are going and who you will be with. If there is concern for your safety, someone will know your intended last location and who you were with.
  • Don’t be afraid to make a scene if you do not feel safe.
Your safety is more important than being embarrassed or worrying about the other person’s feelings.
  • Stay aware of your surroundings.
Remain confident yet aware of your surroundings.
  • Watch out for red flags in dating relationships.
Be aware if your relationships are based on respect and bring you happiness or are they disrespectful and cause you constant stress and tension.
  • Vary your routines to work, school, the store and other places regularly frequented.
Leave at different times of the day and/or take different routes to the places you frequent so it is less likely a potential perpetrator to know your schedule.
  • Always trust your gut feelings and your instinct!
If you are somewhere or with someone that doesn’t feel safe, either find ways to make it safer, leave or seek help.
