Distance Learning and Instructional Technology

We in the Academic Technologies Department would like to welcome you to the Jefferson College of Health Sciences.  Our goal as a department is to provide our students with technology for success in their academic endeavors here at the College.

There are three important tools JCHS students will use throughout their academic career with us.  These are Blackboard, Onejeff student e-mail and Self-Service. See below for an explanation for each application.

For students' convenience, there is an identical login scheme for Blackboard, Onejeff student e-mail and Self-Service. This identical login scheme is referred to as the One Jefferson account.  Please visit the One Jefferson Account Login Information link below to learn more about the One Jefferson account.

  • Blackboard

Blackboard is courseware used by JCHS to manage and develop online components of a course. Every course at JCHS utilizes Blackboard in some way. Courses at JCHS are identified by a three letter prefix (i.e. NSG for nursing) followed by a course number and then a section number. The section number indicates to what extent Blackboard is being used for the course. These section numbers are defined below:

D1: Course where content is delivered in a full online method with no required meetings. Students should expect to interact several times per week with Blackboard content and tools and email. Some faculty may select to have optional meetings. These are very beneficial to the student and should be attended if scheduling allows.

S1: A blended course that combines online and face-to-face meetings. At least 50% of the content is delivered via online and one or more required face-to-face meetings will be conducted. Students should expect to interact on a regular basis with Blackboard content and tools and email. Scheduled class meetings are listed and students are usually required to attend these meetings.

01: A traditional course that utilizes some of the Blackboard features and tools. Students should expect to interact as required by the faculty with Blackboard content and tools and email. Attendance is required in the regular classroom sessions.

Onejeff Student E-mail via Microsoft Live@edu

E-mail account system used by JCHS. Students should make sure they are able to access this college e-mail account. Students should check this college email account regularly. This e-mail account is used for important college and course information and is the required resource for communicating with college faculty and staff.

    Self-Service

Self-Service is a secure web-based application that provides students with access to student services information such as registration, course schedule and grades. With an Self-Service account students can perform various tasks such as registering for courses and checking midterm and final grades for courses. As well as requesting a change in your mailing address and requesting transcripts.
