Federal Work Study Program

Available to graduate students.  Program has a limited amount of funding per college. Eligible students receive wages based upon hours worked.

Varies, based upon unmet-need

Stafford Loan – Subsidized

Available to graduate students based upon financial need. * Must be enrolled at least halftime.  The Federal government pays interest while the student is in school, during the six-month grace period and deferment periods.  There are annual and aggregate maximum limits.  The interest rate is variable, but does not exceed 8.25 percent.

Annual limit each academic year: 

           $8,500

 

Aggregate Subsidized limit:

            $65,000 

 (This debt limit includes all subsidized loans received for undergraduate study).

Stafford Loan- Unsubsidized

Available to graduate students, not based upon financial need.  *Must be enrolled at least halftime.  Interest is charged from the day the loan is disbursed until it’s paid in full, including in-school, grace period and deferment periods.    There are annual and aggregate maximum limits.  The interest rate is variable, but does not exceed 8.25percent.

Annual limit each academic year: 

           $10,000

            (up to $18,500)

 

Aggregate Unsubsidized limit:

            $138,500 

 (This debt limit includes all subsidized loans received for undergraduate study).

Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant Program (VTAG)

Available to full-time graduate students for a maximum of three years, or the number of years of the individual degree program, whichever is shorter.  Full-time means a student who is enrolled for at least nine credit hours per semester. 

Current Annual Award:

$1,900

 

* Full-time enrollment status is defined as 9 credit hours for each programs of study
