PubMed does not support direct exporting of citation files to RefWorks; however, it is possible to "import? PubMed citation data using the following steps:
1.) Open a browser window and go to PubMed at http://pubmed.com
2.) Open a 2nd browser window and login to RefWorks at http://refworks.com
3.) Conduct a PubMed search.
4.) Check the box to the left of each citation you wish to import.
5.) Once you have finished selecting citations, use the drop down menu under ?Display? in PubMed to change from ?Summary? to ?MEDLINE.?
6.) Use the drop down menu by ?Send to? to select ?Text.?
7.) Under ?File? select ?Save As? and indicate a location for your file. (Note: selecting ?Desktop? is a good choice for a temporary file location).
8.) Give the file a ?File name.?
9.) Use the drop down menu by ?Save as type? to select ?Text File (*.txt)
10.) Click ?Save? and close your PubMed window.
11.) Open your RefWorks window.
12.) Under ?References? select ?Import.?
13.) Use the drop down menu by ?Import Filter / Data Source? to select ?NLM PubMed.?
14.) Click the ?Browse? button and locate your PubMed text file.
15.) Highlight the file name and click the ?Open? button.
16.) Click the ?Import? button in RefWorks. Your citations will be imported.
17.) Click ?View Last Imported Folder? button to view your citations.
