Parking Safety

A broad range of crimes plague parkinglots and garages in the United States on a regular basis. Due to 24-hour Carilion Police patrols and JCHS Security visibility, lighting, state of the art digitally recorded security cameras and safety awareness signs, we have no serious crimes.

We want to keep it this way…for you!

Parking Safety Tips

  • Look around your vehicle for any suspicious activity. If you see someone loitering near your vehicle, remain in your vehicle until comfortable or walk past your vehicle until they leave. You may also call Carilion Police at 981-7911.
  • Be suspicious of anyone approaching your vehicle and leave your windows up and doors locked.
  • Don’t park next to a van’s sliding door.
  • Approach your vehicle with your keys already in your hand.
  • Scan your vehicle’s interior before unlocking your door. Be sure to look in the back seat.
  • If possible, park in well lit areas.
  • Keep valuables out of plain sight, preferably locked in the trunk.
  • When possible, walk to parking areas in the company of others.
  • Use elevators when possible since more crimes occur in stairwells.
  • Don’t linger in your vehicle and always report any suspicious activity, as soon as possible.
