Summer 2013 New Student Orientation at JCHS
Welcome to Jefferson College of Health Sciences! We’re pleased you’ve decided to attend our college. Our sole mission is to help you become an outstanding healthcare professional.
New students for the spring 2013 semester are required to attend New Student Orientation (NSO) at JCHS on the following date:
Friday, May 17 - Fall Term Undergraduate & Graduate Students
Check-in for NSO is from 7:15 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. in the main lobby (3rd floor) of Jefferson College of Health Sciences, 101 Elm Ave., Roanoke, VA 24013. The first presentation starts promptly at 8 a.m. Information on directions and parking at CRCH can be found on our website here: http://www.jchs.edu/page.php/prmID/20
A light breakfast and lunch will be provided for new students. Informational sessions at NSO cover topics essential to your success as a student at JCHS. Seating is very limited. As such, you must register for a session. Orientation is for students only. Please do not bring parents, family, friends, or children with you; there will not be space to accommodate them. Thank you!
NSO will end by 1:30 p.m. Following NSO, College facilities and offices will be open for you to visit on their regular department schedules. If you are interested in meeting with your advisor or professors during these open-house periods, please contact them or your department secretary directly to make an appointment.
NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION REGISTRATION
You must register to attend NSO. To register, access your JCHS Blackboard Account through OneJeff (http://www.jchs.edu/onejefferson/index.php). Click Blackboard, and enter your username and password. Once in Blackboard, click the Starfish access link.

Starfish is an online program students can use to schedule appointment with services on campus. When you click on the Starfish link, a new window will open. Click SUCCESS NETWORK at the top of the page, then scroll down and click New Student Orientation.

Read through the description and follow the on screen directions to register.
We ask that you register at least two weeks prior to orientation. If you have questions about NSO or need help registering, contact Elizabeth Costa, Coordinator of Student Life, at (540) 985-9701 or eacosta@jchs.edu.
INFORMATION ON ID BADGES
College ID badges are available to be made between the hours of 9 a.m.-11 a.m. and 1 p.m.-3 p.m.
New students should bring one form of photo identification with them to the Student Affairs Suite on the 4th Floor of Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital (CRCH) to have their College ID made.

Thursday, August 15 - Fall Term Undergraduate Student Sessions
Monday, August 19 - Fall Term Undergraduate & Graduate Student Sessions*

Mandatory Convocation Ceremony
Who: Mandatory for all new students starting undergraduate and graduate programs for the fall 2013 semester.
What: The Convocation Ceremony is the formal start to your College experience--much as commencement is the formal conclusion. Faculty will process, during the ceremony, with caps and gowns. Students should dress appropriately (something you would wear to a graduation ceremony). A reception will follow the ceremony.
When: Tuesday, August 20, 2013. Doors open for seating at 8 a.m. The ceremony will run from 9 to 11 a.m.
Where: St. John's Episcopal Church (1 Mountain Avenue Southwest, Roanoke). Students will be able to park in College parking areas and walk to the ceremony.
*As with New Student Orientation, this event is for JCHS students, faculty, and staff only. Due to limited seating, please do not bring parents, family, friends, or children with you; there will not be space to accommodate them. Thank you!
