The Paw Print - Guidelines for Submission

Send all submissions to Letisha Houston, editor of the newsletter, at LBHouston@jchs.edu. Submissions for each issue will be selected based on the relevance of the topic as well as space availability.  Content may be edited for clarity and grammatical precision.

General Guidelines

Deadline:

The submission deadline for each issue can be found on the last page of the previous issue of the newsletter, as well as in the e-mail that announced the publication of the previous issue.

Length:
Submissions may be anywhere from 75 – 150 words long. Occasionally, longer submissions may be accepted.

Photos:
Photos may be submitted with your articles; be sure the photos are clear and relevant. Photos should be submitted electronically, either as a .JPEG or .GIF file, and may not be submitted as an image inserted into a Word document.

Topics:
Articles should be related to health & healthcare, the College, College events, programs, academics, and local news that affects the JCHS community.  Please do not submit articles that are not related to the College (e.g. what happened at Valley View Mall this weekend, or the latest gossip about your roommate).

Ads and Announcements:
All Ads and Announcements should contain within 20-50 words and may be accompanied by a photo, if applicable. If you have an ad you would like to run every issue, please re-submit it for each issue.

Submitting Student Spotlight Nominations

All nominations for the Student Spotlight must be sent to the newsletter editor by the same deadline that is listed for all submissions in the most recently published issue of the newsletter.

Any student, faculty or staff member may nominate a JCHS student for the Student Spotlight. Limit one nomination per person.

To nominate a studentyou must submit the name of the student you are nominating along with a few sentences describing the principal reasons why he/she deserves the spotlight (see the criteria below). If your nomination is chosen and if the student accepts the nomination, you will be contacted to write a 150-word (approx.) article describing the student’s achievements and providing examples for why he/she deserves the spotlight.

The students nominated will be judged based on meeting or exceeding three criteria:

1.       The student exemplifies the JCHS Mission Statement,

2.       The student is involved in the JCHS community

3.       The student is involved in the community outside of JCHS

The Spotlight article will be written about the selected student upon his/her acceptance of the nomination, and he/she will receive a gift and certificate of recognition from the Dean for Student Affairs. The individual who nominated the Spotlight recipient will also receive a gift.  Both will be notified by the Department of Student Affairs when they may come to pick up their gifts.
