Parking
Jefferson College of Health Sciences has over 900 students and 75 faculty and staff. We make every effort to accommodate all of our students by allowing them to park in the Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital parking garage located directly behind the Reid Center. We also have a student parking lot just one block south of the Reid Center. The parking lot directly across from the Reid Center, the Reid Center parking garages and the lot beside the upper garage are reserved for full-time Carilion and College employees.

Student vehicles will be towed from these areas at the student's expense. Many of our students have access to Carilion parking passes via their clinical assignments. This does not allow them to park in the employee-only parking lots. Violators will be towed. Students at the College must park in the student-designated spaces when attending classes or engaging in College-related activities as a student.

Visitors should park in the Visitor spaces located at Fralin House.
I.D. Badges
All students, faculty and staff are required to have an official JCHS I.D. badge. Students normally have their badges made during New Student Orientation. I.D. Badges may also be made by seeing Security in the lobby of Reid Center. Students must pay $5.00 for replacement badges.

I.D. badges are required for any student who will be participating in a clinical experience or to gain entrance to the College after regular business hours or on the weekends.
Mail
Every student has a mailbox that is located in his/her program office. This mailbox will be used for the student to receive on-campus mail. Non-resident students should not have their mail forwarded to the College. Mail delivered to the College for resident students will be delivered to their room in the residence halls.

Student Government Association
The Student Senate at Jefferson College addresses issues that effect the day-to-day activities as related to our students.  All students at Jefferson College are members of the Student Senate.   The students elect representatives including 3 full time students, 2 part time students, 2 resident students, 2 commuter students and 1 staff member to handle the day-to-day operations of the Senate.  From this group, a chair and co-chair are elected.  The director of student services and the cordinator of student activities also works with the Senate.
Carilion Orientation

Students who are participating in clinical experiences are required to complete a mandatory Carilion Clinical Orientation. This orientation is normally offered during New Student Orientation and consists of training in six key areas. Failure to complete this training will prevent students from attending their clinical experiences. Students who have questions regarding the Carilion Clinical Orientation should see Jennifer Carlo in room 705 or e-mail her at jcarlo@jchs.edu.

Having a Part-time Job
Many students have part-time employment while attending college (if their program of study allows this). Some students work on-campus through the college or federal work study programs. Others hold various positions within the healthcare community depending upon previous training and experience. Some students work in retail or as waiters or waitresses at local restaurants. If you're looking for employment opportunities check the Classified Ads in the Roanoke Times & World-News as well as the bulletin boards at the college for more information.
Where to Eat
Although Jefferson College of Health Sciences does not have a cafeteria in the Reid Center, we utilize the cafeteria located on the fourth floor of Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital. The hospital offers a full-range of lunch and dinner items. In addition, the College is within walking distance of over 35 restaurants in the downtown area.
Student Safety
The safety of all those who attend and work at Jefferson College of Health Sciences is of utmost importance. Accordingly, the College has instituted policies and procedures designed to help all individuals focus on their safety and health. These policies and procedures can be found in both the College Student Handbook and College Safety Manual. In addition, the College has security guards who patrol the Reid Center between the hours of 7 p.m. and 3 a.m. Access to the Reid Center after 7 p.m. and on the weekends is only given to students with valid I.D. badges and their guests.
Carilion Tuition Waiver Program
