The College may delay or cancel classes due to inclement weather or other conditions. Any announcement canceling classes or delaying the beginning of classes will be made prior to 6:30 a.m., if possible. Students should check the JCHS webpage or call the College's main number at (540) 985-8483 for information regarding delayed or cancelled classes. Announcements may be made on local TV and radio stations when possible.
The Policy:
Delayed Schedule, Opens at [whenever], or [#] Hour Delay:
Classes beginning and ending prior to the Delayed Schedule Opening Time will not meet, but may, at the discretion of the Program Director, be required to be made up at a later date.
If the delayed start time occurs during a class period, that class will meet from the delayed opening time until the normal class dismissal time. For example, if you have a class which meets from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and classes are delayed until 10:00 a.m., you should report to that class at 10:00 a.m. and it will meet until its regular dismissal time.
College Closed, or Classes Cancelled: All classes cancelled and all offices closed, including the Learning Resource Center and all administrative offices.
Day Classes Canceled: All classes scheduled to meet before 5:00 p.m. are canceled. The Learning Resource Center will be closed until 5:00 p.m.
Night Classes Canceled: No classes meet after 5:00 p.m. The Learning Resource Center will close at 5:00 p.m.
