The Inauguration Ceremony for
Dr. Nathaniel L. Bishop took place at
Greene Memorial United Methodist
Church in Roanoke.

Before the Inauguration Ceremony,
Dr. Bishop poses near the sanctuary
with family members
and friends in attendance.

The stage was set for the ceremony
with Jefferson College banners and chairs
for our speakers and dignitaries as
the event began.

The first to enter were JCHS students
representing our four levels of degrees—
associate, associate of applied science,
bachelor's and master's.

Next to take the stage were the
Directors of our academic programs.

Rev. Gary Robbins, Pastor at Greene
Memorial provided the ceremonial greeting.

We then sang the Inaugural hymn, "Praise the Source of Faith and Learning,"
led by Dr. Bishop himself!

Rev. Richard Brown, Director of
Carilion Clinic Pastoral Care and Chaplaincy, provided the Invocation.

The group on the stage bow their heads
as the Invocation is delivered
by Richard Brown.

Mr. Stephen Musselwhite, Chair of the
JCHS Board of Directors, then
welcomed everyone to the ceremony.

The first remarks were provided by
Dr. David Trinkle, Vice-Mayor of the
City of Roanoke.

Next was Bishop Marcus Matthews,
Resident Bishop of the Upper New York
Area United Methodist Church.

Our student remarks were given by
Ms. Jessica Toms, President of the JCHS Students of Respiratory Therapy Association.

Ms. Toms spoke directly to Dr. Bishop
during her speech, thanking him for
being so inviting and warm to students.

Ms. Nancy Howell Agee, CEO and President
of Carilion Clinic then spoke, reflecting
on the many wonderful qualities and the considerable dedication that Dr. Bishop
brings to his work.

Dr. Bishop listens as Ms. Agee speaks
during his Inauguration Ceremony.
Before coming to JCHS, Dr. Bishop
worked closely with Ms. Agee as a
Vice-President at Carilion Clinic.

With over 500 in attendance, the sanctuary
was brimming with those on hand to wish
Dr. Bishop well on his Inauguration Day.

Dr. Bishop and the speakers on stage
with him share a moment of levity
during the Inauguration ceremony.

JCHS Dean for Academic Affairs Lisa
Allison-Jones took the podium to
introduce our featured Inaugural Speaker,
Dr. Jennifer Braaten.

Dr. Braaten is the President of Ferrum
College, one of JCHS's partners in
higher education. Dr. Bishop also
sits on the Board of Ferrum College.

Dr. Braaten, a close friend of
Dr. Bishop, brought the Inaugural
Address, which included humor and
insight into our new President.

As President of Ferrum College,
Dr. Braaten's leadership has led to
her institution being a nationally
recognized academic leader.

A member of the JCHS Board of Directors,
The Honorable Philip Trompeter,
District Judge, provided the
Presentation of the President.

The Inauguration audience applauds
as Dr. Bishop officially accepts his
position as President of Jefferson
College of Health Sciences.

Dr. Bishop then stepped up to
the podium to give the
President's Response.

A powerful speaker, Dr. Bishop's
words were inspirational as he
reflected on his journey to this point.

From a career in law enforcement,
through healthcare administration and
now as President of JCHS, Dr. Bishop
brings with him a wealth of valuable experience.

By the time Dr. Bishop finished
his response, the Inauguration
crowd was on its feet, applauding
his considerable skills motivating
an audience.

We then began the call and response part
of the Inauguration ceremony, which
included the JCHS students, faculty and
staff, fellow higher education institutions,
the city of Roanoke and Dr. Bishop's
family and friends.

After the call and response,
Rev. James A. Bishop, Sr.,
Pastor of Asbury Town Neck
United Methodist Church and brother of
President Bishop, led the
Benediction.

during the Recessional at the
conclusion of the Inauguration
ceremony.

Just after the Inauguration Ceremony ended,
Dr. Bishop posed with Delegates from our fellow higher education institutions from
across Virginia and neighboring states.

All of those who attended the Inauguration Ceremony were then invited back to
the JCHS campus for a reception.

Dr. Bishop poses with his wife,
Sylvia, at the Inauguration
reception.

The reception was not only an opportunity
to celebrate Dr. Bishop's Inauguration, but
a chance to enjoy some delicious treats
like this beautiful cake!

There was also an incredible spread
of great food with an autumn theme. Here, members of the College community
celebrate with some grub!

Held in one of our large classrooms on
the JCHS campus at Carilion Roanoke
Community Hospital, we welcomed a
full house for the reception.

It was a great opportunity for everyone to
catch up and over a late lunch and
congratulate Dr. Bishop on
his Presidency.

With his extensive past experience at Carilion Clinic, many of
Dr. Bishop's colleagues attended to congratulate him, including Carolyn Webster (left), Senior Vice-President, and Wanda Ostrander, Vice-President.

Nearby, former and current colleagues
of Dr. Bishop gathered, including (left to right) Bridget Moore, a former member of the JCHS family now at VTC; Dr. Carol Seavor, JCHS President Emeritus; and Anna Millirons,
JCHS Dean for Administrative Services.

Many of Dr. Bishop's friends and family members also joined us on campus
for the celebration.

We thank everyone who attended both the Inauguration ceremony and reception.
