Health & Exercise Science Student Nicky Young Honored at Carilion Clinic's Shine Conference

Tuesday, October 28 2014

Jefferson College Health & Exercise Science (HES) Senior Nicky Young worked with her clinical supervisor, Carilion Clinic Exercise Physiologist Kristen Cornwell, to create the "CLIMB the Steps to Wellness" Program which has been adopted as one of Carilion's cardiac rehab stage IV maintenance programs at the Roanoke Athletic Club and the Botetourt Athletic Club.

Nicky and Kristen (pictured here) were recognized at the Carilion Clinic Shine Conference recently with a third place award in the "innovation" category at the poster exhibit.

This is the second HES student project which has been formally adopted by Carilion as an organization—the first was Samantha Spangler, Class of 2012, and her work with Michelle Hamilton to create the StairWell initiative at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Congratulations, Nicky! We are so proud of your hard work!
