Surgical Technology Program Achieves 100% Pass Rate on National Examination

Wednesday, May 11 2016

On Wednesday, May 4, 2016, students in the Jefferson College of Health Sciences Surgical Technology Program took the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) National Examination for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) in the testing center on campus. The results were received on May 10, and the program achieved a pass rate of 100%.

To put this in perspective this achievement, the national pass rate is 70%. In 2015, there were 161 programs that achieved a 90% or higher pass rate out of 489 CHAAHEP and ABHES accredited surgical technology programs nationally.

The CST examination consists of 200 questions, 175 of which are scored. The 25 pretest items (unscored) are randomly distributed throughout the examination for the purpose of analysis and statistical evaluation. Out of the 175 scored questions, three of the students scored a remarkable 159, 156 and 155.

This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication to the high standards of Jefferson College by both students and the faculty of the Surgical Technology Program. Please join us in congratulating the Surgical Technology students and faculty on their hard work and outstanding achievement!
