Dane is a social psychologist (Ph.D., University of Kansas, 1979) whose research encompasses mathematical models of medical outcomes and environmental determinants of mastery learning. He was Co-Director of the longest running longitudinal registry project concerning in-hospital cardiopulmonary resuscitation and has recently initiated, with Nancy Altice and others at Carilion Clinic, a project on hypothermia as a post-resuscitation treatment. He joined JCHS in August 2010 as a Professor and serves as Chair of Arts & Sciences. He is a member of Sigma Xi and a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society.
