Other Information: Sara Houser was born and raised here in the Roanoke Valley and even though she has traveled extensively, she cannot imagine a better place to live. She received a bachelor's degree in Biology from Radford University and completed her Master's degree in Biology with a concentration in Microbiology and Immunology from Virginia Tech in 1990. "My intentions were always to pursue research as a career and my field of graduate research was in the fascinating and rewarding discipline of Tumor Immunology. I then spent 6 years in Infectious Diseases research with a focus on Virology and Immunology. A teaching position then came open and now after almost 25 years of teaching, I cannot imagine doing anything else. There are few things more rewarding than having a former student walk up to you and say "I really enjoyed your class; I'm so glad you made us learn all of those bacteria. I use the information every day in my job." I hope to make a positive impact on student's lives for many years to come. On a personal note, I am married to a high school math teacher who shares my passion for teaching and volleyball. I have two beautiful daughters who I am immensely proud of; one who seems to have inherited the teaching gene and the other a budding Occupational Therapist.
