E-mail: DAHaynes@jchs.eduDr. Haynes, DHSc, OTR received his bachelor’s of science in occupational therapy from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1981. Working in several different adult rehabilitation settings in SC, he returned to his native Roanoke in 1985. Dr. Haynes established the first Occupational Therapy Department at the Lewis-Gale Medical Center and eventually became the Director of Out-Patient Therapies (OT, PT, SLP, Sports Medicine and Cardiac Rehab) during his 13 years of employment. Dr. Haynes joined the faculty of Jefferson College of Health Sciences in January, 1998, as the director of the OT Assistant program. Always active in both state and national OT professional organizations, he is a past president (2 terms) of the state association (VOTA) and is now serving as the alternate representative (from VA ) to the Representative Assembly of the national association (AOTA). He also served as the Chair of the OTA Program Director’s Education Council and on the Commission on Education for AOTA from 2003-2007. Always a strong supporter of continuing education, Dr. Haynes completed his Doctor in Health Sciences degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Indianapolis in 2007. Dr. Haynes was named as director of the Occupational Therapy program in 2007 and was instrumental in helping to establish OT as one of the three graduate level programs currently offered at Jefferson College of Health Sciences.
