|The JCHS community is excited to promote community service and stewardship through "Jefferson Serves," a campus-wide initiative founded last year in honor of Dr. Bishop's inauguration. |
This year, Jefferson Serves is expanding to include the entire month of November with the theme, "Giving Thanks by Giving Back." From Nov. 1-30, 2012, JCHS will commemorate our Homecoming with events like our inaugural 5K Riverside Run & Wellness Walk on November 10 and Jefferson Serves will be part of that celebration. In addition, this year's Jefferson Serves will promote giving back to those in need through service in the spirit of Thanksgiving and the time we take to reflect on our many blessings.
In 2011, the JCHS community "served" over 600 hours of community service work among faculty, staff and students. So, let's try for 700 hours this year!
How can you participate in Jefferson Serves this year?
1. If you are already participating in community service: download the Jefferson Serves Pledge Sheet at http://www.jchs.edu/media/3506_jervespledgesheet12.doc, track your hours and submit your completed sheet at the end of the month to your Program Director.
2. If you would like to volunteer for the JCHS 5k Riverside Run & Wellness Walk: visit https://jchs5k.com/ to sign up and then complete a Jefferson Serves Pledge Sheet and turn it in to your Program Director.
3. If you are looking for volunteer activities, visit http://jchs.ivolunteer.com/. There, you'll find many activities, mostly associated with the Rescue Mission's "Drumstick Dash" on Thanksgiving Day as well as other events and services in need of assistance. Be sure to track your hours on the Pledge Sheet for the activity you choose and turn it in to your Program Director by the end of the month.
Regardless of the volunteer activity you participate in during November, we encourage you to fill out the Pledge Sheet and submit it. We want to count your efforts to support our communities! Completed forms will be collected and the final volunteer hours total will be announced in December.
We hope you will take some time this November to give thanks for your blessings by giving back to your community.
