Transfer Students

Transfer students make up a large part of our student population here at Jefferson.  Many of our students felt compelled to switch to a career track in healthcare after they began programs at other colleges and universities.  Still others have completed undergraduate or graduate degrees and are working toward a credential in the medical world.

Transfer students are usually well-prepared for our rigorous science-based programs and have the opportunity to stand out as academic leaders.

Who is a Transfer Student?

  • The holder of a high school diploma or GED
  • Completion of at least one semester of college coursework
  • Academic coursework that includes:
    • English
    • Algebra
    • Biology and Chemistry or Anatomy & Physiology
  • If you hold a bachelors degree, high school transcripts are not required.

Your completed application should include:

  • An online application
  • High school transcripts
  • College transcripts from all institutions attended
  • Any additional program-specific requirements.

Transfer Credits

To find out what credits will transfer to Jefferson College of Health Sciences, use this Transfer Tool, provided by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.

A student will receive credit for those courses taken at a regionally accredited college or university that are comparable to Jefferson courses and in which at least a "C" grade was earned. Our Registrar evaluates each transcript on an individual basis and prospective students will receive a "Transfer Credit Evaluation" from the Admissions Office.  The registrar determines transfer courses that meet Jefferson's general education requirements. The director of the program for which you are applying evaluates program-specific courses.

We also have formal articulation agreements with various colleges in the Virginia community college system. For more information, contact the Admissions Office.

Visiting Jefferson

Although transfer students are familiar with college life and many have lived on residential campuses, it's still a good idea to visit Jefferson before applying. Our campus is in a unique downtown location and offers limited traditional campus amenities. If you enjoy metropolitan living and convenient access to shopping, restaurants and entertainment, Jefferson is a perfect fit for you.  If a sprawling rural campus is what you seek, you may find Jefferson a little too urban. Our location puts our students in the midst of many clinical sites, which, as you will find, is extremely convenient once you start your professional program.

Come visit and see for yourself. Call us at 1-888-985-8483 to schedule a personalized tour.
