Counseling & Wellness

Counseling services are provided for any Jefferson College of Health Sciences student and are free and confidential. Counselors are available for students to assist them both personally and academically.

Common issues that we see in the Counseling Center include:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Relationship Issues
  • Adjustment Issues (i.e., homesickness)

The Counseling Center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday. Students can make an appointment by calling the Student Affairs Secretary at (540) 985-8395 or visiting her in the Student Affairs suite, located on the fourth floor of Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital (CRCH).

Bio: Jennifer Slusher is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). She earned her Master's degree in Counseling and Human Development from Radford University and Doctorate in Counselor Education from Virginia Tech. Jennifer has over 15 years experience working primarily with young adults on issues such as depression, adjustment issues/life transitions, women’s issues, anxiety, grief/loss, stress, and GLBT issues to name a few. She is an adjunct instructor at Radford University and Virginia Tech and has worked in higher education and at various mental health agencies as well.
