The JCHS Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Program held a ceremony to celebrate the imminent graduation of their class of 2013 on May 7, 2013.
The celebration took place at the Vinton War Memorial in Vinton, Virginia.
Our guests were treated to a beautiful sampling of hors d’oeuvres and other treats.
Before the ceremony began, the MSN students, faculty and their families and loved ones enjoyed some relaxed time together, chatting about their experience sin the program.
Then, the official ceremony got under way with an introduction from Patty Vari, Director of the JCHS MSN Program.
JCHS President Dr. Nathaniel L. Bishop spoke to the MSN graduates and their friends and families about the importance of their contributions to the health of the Roanoke Valley and beyond.
Following Dr. Bishop was Dr. Ava Porter, Chair of the JCHS Nursing Department. Dr. Porter asked the entire MSN faculty to step forward and be recognized. Pictured here, from left to right are Dr. Jeannie Garber, Assistant Professor; Dr. Kathleen Williams, Associate Professor; Dr. Martha Anderson, Associate Professor; Dr. Warren Clark, Professor; Dr. Melody Sharp, Associate Professor and the Director of the Post-Licensure and Accelerated BSN Programs; and Dr. Patty Vari.
Among those who joined us for this event was Carolyn Webster, R.N. (right), Senior Vice-President and Chief Nursing Officer at Carilion Clinic.
Part of the program was dedicated to recognizing Dr. Warren Clark, who retires at the conclusion of the spring 2013 semester after nearly 17 years with JCHS. Here, he shares a rarely seen grin, along with Dr. Jeannie Garber (who is ALWAYS smiling!).
The MSN Class of 2013 made a special presentation to Dr. Clark with a gift basket and, in turn, each speaking to him directly to thank him for his efforts in getting them to their degrees.
Then, Dr. Clark was the recipient of a big group hug from all of the graduates!
Warren then spoke to the grads and shared a last chuckle with them as he accepted his basket.
Afterward, Warren slipped to the back of the room and examined all of the wonderful gifts the students had given him.
At a nearby table, MSN student Suzanne Beels took the opportunity to have her photo taken with JCHS President Dr. Nathaniel L. Bishop. Doing the honors for them was Dr. Rebecca Greer, Director of the Pre-Licensure BSN Program at JCHS.
Chatting with a family member was Dr. Kathleen Williams, Associate Professor in the JCHS Nursing Program.
The MSN students then retreated to tables around the room to speak about their research projects. Each had a mini version of posters and handouts that summarized the topics they had focused on. Here, MSN student Debbie Davis talks with fellow MSN student Doris Duff.
President Bishop also went from table to table, learning about the fascinating healthcare-related subjects our MSN students had studied. Here, he shares a laugh with MSN student Angelina Surgent.
Dr. Martha Anderson (far left) and Dr. Melody Sharp (center), hear about MSN student Paula Tate's research.
Dr. Jeannie Garber (left) got recruited to take a snapshot of student Suzanne Beels and Program Director Patty Vari at the MSN celebration.
MSN students Angelina Surgent (near table) and Susan Wirt (far table), speak about their research as part of the MSN Program.
