| LPN to Associate Degree in Nursing |
|
Licensed practical nurses build upon previous experience and education to complete an associate degree in nursing. General education courses provide important tools for use in nursing practice. Nursing knowledge is built on a foundation in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, behavioral sciences, communication and basic mathematics to assure a basis for understanding and responding appropriately to health needs of clients. Nursing courses begin with an initial summer transition course which provides the knowledge, skills and values necessary for transition into registered professional nursing. Students enter into second-level nursing courses in the fall semester. Nursing course challenge opportunities are provided within the program. The nursing courses can be completed in as little as three semesters. Graduates of the LPN to Associate Degree in Nursing program will be prepared for the challenge of passing the National Council Licensing Examination-Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN) for licensure and for entering a practice field that requires the ability to synthesize extensive knowledge, skills and values. The faculty of the department is committed to working with students to help them achieve educational and clinical practice goals.
If you are interested in becoming a licensed practical nurse, Jefferson College of health Sciences is also home to Practical Nursing Program. Students who graduate from the Practical Nursing Program are eligible to apply to the JCHS LPN to Associate Degree in Nursing program. The Practical Nursing program offers a 12-month program in the most advanced heathcare facilties in Southwest Virginia. |
